- Unable to send or receive iMessages
- Check and ensure iMessage is properly set up.
- Go to Settings.
- Open Messages.
- Verify that iMessage is enabled.
- Check is your phone is connected to data via either Wi-Fi or your carrier’s network.
- If you see a data indicator on the upper part of the screen, that means you’re good.
- Ensure your Apple ID or phone number for your phone is in the Send & Receive list.
- Go to Settings.
- Open Messages.
- Select Send & Receive.
- Reset Network Settings on your iPhone. This could help if the problem is caused by the network.
- Go to Settings.
- Tap Messages.
- Turn off iMessage.
- Go back to Settings.
- Tap General.
- Tap Reset.
- Tap Reset Network Settings.
- Enter PIN, if needed.
- Go back to Settings.
- Tap Messages.
- Turn on iMessage.
- Perform a Soft Reset or restart your phone.
- Press and hold the Power and Home buttons until the Apple logo appears.
- Disable iMessage.
- Enable Airplane Mode. When Airplane mode is on, Wi-Fi is automatically disabled.
- Enable Wi-Fi.
- Go back to Messages.
- Enable iMessage.
- If prompted, enter your Apple ID. This is a requirement if you haven’t yet set up your Apple ID.
- Go back to Settings.
- Disable Airplane Mode.
- If prompted with the message saying, ‘Your carrier may charge for SMS…’ tap OK to proceed. Otherwise, go to Messages.
- Disable iMessage and enable it again.
- Wait for the iMessage to get activated.
- If you see a grayed number and email address, just wait a little later for the number to be checked.
